The voice for the majority of Illinois employers: non-profits, mom and pop shops, governments, universities and schools.
WE STAND WITH THOSE WHO STAND WITH US
To hear some people say it, what is good for big business is good for Illinois employers.
Governor Rauner's agenda of lowering Illinois taxes, especially on big business, that shuts down human service and higher education investment and jacks up the state's debt, is supposed to be the way to help grow our economy.
Turns out, that's not the case at all.
Most employers are worse off under Governor Rauner's Republican policies of blowing up our states's debt, because we are going to pay for that (at more than 18% interest annually).
Most employers would rather high income and wealthy people and companies pay a higher tax rate, because that will not only pay down our debt faster but makes sense since when we have a good year, we can afford to pay a higher rate. The flat income tax rate and the high property and sales tax rates make life more expensive for most employers, since we have to pick up the slack since the wealthy aren't paying the higher state and local rates they can afford.
Most employers want cheaper health insurance -- and ideally, have our government buy it for our employees, just like Medicare or Medicaid -- to lower our costs. That's why repealing Obamacare or cutting back on Medicaid is bad for us, since we're going to have to pay more.
Most employers want our government to focus on all of our needs, not just the biggest pro-profit businesses that dominate the debate.
That means Illinois needs laws and policies that benefit all employers mom and pop shops, local governments, public schools, hospitals, universities, non-profit organizations and large businesses. Some politicians like Governor Rauner are pushing policies that only benefit the wealthy owners of large businesses -- which directly hurts other employers and leads to layoffs.
A job is a job, whether it is with a social service provider like Catholic Charities, a hospital, a park district or a small business. And we need to help all Illinois employers.
